Title: Product Engineer - Agentic Automation & Application
PT
At Chain IQ, your ideas move fast.
Chain IQ is a global AI-driven Procurement Service Partner, headquartered in Baar, Switzerland, with operations across main centers and 16 offices worldwide. We provide tailored, end-to-end procurement solutions that enable transformation, drive scalability, and deliver substantial reductions in our clients' indirect spend. Our culture is built on innovation, entrepreneurship, ownership, and impact. Here, your voice matters - bold thinking is encouraged, and action follows ambition.
We are building a modern platform that combines complex workflows, automation, and emerging AI-driven capabilities. This role builds the systems that both users and automated agents interact with every day, from backend orchestration through to application-level behavior.
You design and implement backend services, workflow orchestration and automation logic, and you also take responsibility for how those systems are exposed to users through reliable, intuitive application surfaces. The emphasis is on predictable system behavior, clear boundaries, and production-ready automation that users can understand and trust.
This is a hands-on engineering role in a fast-moving environment. You work across product, data, security and design to ensure automation is useful, explainable, and safe.
Responsibilities
-
Design, build and own backend services and workflows that automate complex, multi-step processes
-
Implement reliable orchestration for long-running workflows, including state management, retries and recovery
-
Integrate unstructured data assessment into automation flows, including document analysis and external system interaction
-
Build and maintain headless and API-driven interactions with third-party tools where direct integration is limited
-
Design retrieval and context assembly flows that balance accuracy, performance and cost
-
Define and enforce clear boundaries for automated actions, validation and human intervention
-
Own application-layer integration with automation, including status, progress, confidence and recovery surfaces
-
Implement user-facing flows for initiating, monitoring, validating and overriding automated behavior
-
Ensure failures, retries and partial execution are visible and understandable to users
-
Design explainability and audit views that reflect real system behavior
-
Ensure automated workflows are observable, testable and auditable end to end
-
Optimize services for performance and cost as usage scales, with explicit focus on reducing cost to serve
-
Contribute to shared platform patterns for automation, messaging, caching, memory and state management
-
Work closely with Product, Data, Design and Security teams to ensure automation aligns with business outcomes and trust requirements
-
Continuously identify opportunities to replace manual operational work with safe, scalable automation
What you will work with
-
Event-driven and asynchronous workflows
-
Automation and agent-assisted execution patterns
-
Frontend application surfaces integrated with long-running workflows
-
Structured, semantic and document-based data
-
Retrieval and decision logic integrated into workflows
-
Observability and monitoring for automated behavior
Requirements
- Full professional fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory
-
Strong experience building production backend systems, not prototypes
-
Experience designing application behavior on top of asynchronous and long-running processes
-
Experience working with unstructured data such as documents, web content or semi-structured records
-
Experience building systems where automation replaces manual operational effort at scale
-
Understanding of retrieval, context assembly and information extraction pipelines
-
Experience managing state, memory and context across long-running workflows
-
Familiarity with caching strategies, message queues and asynchronous processing patterns
-
Ability to reason about system behavior under load, partial failure and retry conditions
-
Experience designing user-facing systems that reflect underlying system state accurately
-
Strong understanding of cost, performance and reliability trade-offs
-
Awareness of how architectural decisions impact cost to serve
-
Comfort working across backend, automation and application layers
-
Ability to collaborate closely with product, design, data and security teams
-
Clear communication and a bias toward pragmatic, maintainable solutions
